My friend Jody

Here's an update of my visit with Jody on 7/17. Unfortunately, the day after, she became very ill and was taken to Marlboro Hospital. A few days later she was moved to a hospice in Wayland.

I didn't want to stay too long, especially since she had just had a
visit from Sue and Dan, but I did stay long enough for Mark to get out
and run some errands.

I approached with trepidation as I honestly didn't know what to expect.
Jody spends a lot of time in bed, as she is in pain when walking around.
Her bedroom is large and airy, with a skylight and ceiling fan, and she has the A/C running. (definitely needed yesterday). She was propped up on lots of pillows and has all her gadgets by her side - iPhone Touch (really cool!), with music,
email, calendar and favorite web sites, etc., and a TV. She is a bit
jaundiced due to her liver problems and speaks softly so sometimes I had
to edge closer to hear her. Otherwise, she seems in control and ruling
"Jody-dom" from her palace of pillows.

They were expecting a wheelchair delivery yesterday, and today, Mark was
bringing her to Newbury Street to get her hair done, so the wheelchair
will really help with that. She is also planning a trip to the Cape
next month for a family gathering.

Two different hospice workers visited while I was there, and she was
drinking something with the unfortunate name of "Liver Tea", prepared
by her herbalist, Master Lee. She also has been having Reiki sessions,
which she says are very relaxing.

I wish I'd brought flowers since Jody apparently does not like Entenmans
chocolate chip cookies, although Mark definitely does.

I am not clear how Jody's disease is progressing - fast or slow, but we
did not discuss medical stuff.much. She seems weak, but is doing what
she can to boost her TCells etc.
