Job Seeker's Log 071808

perhaps I should turn this into a job seeker's blog. Can I have a multi purpose blog?
I haven't been doing much to job search yet, since I am having back surgery next week, but I am still keeping in touch with people, reading the job boards, networking and looking for advice on how to find something meaningful that is not the typical Monday morning-staff-meeting-free-coffee-annual-review-hour-long-commute micromanaged" grind.

It really got me down and I've enjoyed being unemployed so much that I don't know how I could possibly go back to that. I've changed careers once, and I have many transferrable skills. Job coaches and life coaches can help you IDENTIFY what you've got, but I've been through all the exercises countless times. Now I need to try and FIND these opportunities - how do I find out about these sorts of jobs that people seem to just fall into.

2) I HATE commuting - there don't seem to be many places outside of my immediate area (North of Boston) that I'm willing to commute to. Unless the opportunity was really something once-in-a-lifetime amazing.

The only place that I think I'd really like to work at (that kind of maybe fits that description) is cMarket, where I interviewed in March. This is a "venture backed, post-start-up" which facilitates online auctions for non-profits. I contacted the original recruiter and she's going to talk to the hiring manager for me. they keep posting jobs like the one I had interviewed for. I don't think I'd be such a terrible choice, honestly. That job would be a dream, as far as I can tell... I wasn't introduced around, but I seriously would love to get hired there. Benefits, a cool company, not too bad a commute, and I think there's a Fitcorp over there.
It's a nice location - just the traffic getting there might be a pain, but I think I can handle it... for the right job.

So that's my best hope at this point. Once I can get serious about looking, I'll start really looking in earnest, but I'm going to try to put myself out there for some non-traditional things.
I figure it this way -- I have money. If I have money coming in, and supplement it with money I have, it might be a win/win. Gas is $4.00 a gallon, tolls add up, so commuting is a poor choice these days.
