Blogs and the Bloggers who Blog Them
I was reading my friend Hinda's blog recently and realized that my blog is nothing like a lot of other blogs I read. This blog is more like a diary. Hinda, and many others who blog with a higher purpose, often choose a topic - something that they've been thinking about, that perhaps will elicit comments from readers. Maybe they are looking for answers, or for agreement, or are just trying to sort something out. For example, Hinda writes about how people view her - how she wants to be perceived.. or not. For example, someone who sees her may just see a college age woman wearing jeans, high tops and dangly earrings, but will not know that she is very involved in Jewish music and Jewish studies, or any other things about her, and she wonders whether she wants people to always know about her, or if she just wants people to know her sometimes. I commented back that that is probably why we wear t-shirts with sayings on them - like Go Sox - but maybe only at certain times. Sometimes we want to remain anonymous, but sometimes, like when she sees someone studying music on the Train, she'd like them to know that - hey, I am a musican too! There's really no way to broadcast that - although we can do that subtly - take out our own music, start talking on a cell phone (hmmm.. we could even fake a call). Or, I suppose we could all wear ID t-shirts. " SWJF musician, enjoys south park and shopping. "
