Just a quick post that I copied from an email home, so I don't have to retype everything. It's only a bit... to get me started. i actually have an entire document I've been working on that will be much longer than this.
Tomorrow we leave for Tel Aviv - I can't believe I'll be home Thursday and back to real life. Tonight is Yom Ha- - something - (Zicaron) day of rememberance. I think last week commemorated the holocaust - tonight and tomorrow commemorates all soldiers. tomorrow we will do some sightseeing on way to tel aviv. I think we're going to see the Chagall windows at the Hadassah Medical center and also some old munitions plant. We have to be on the bus at 8 AM, earlier than usual.
Today we saw the caves at Qumran where the dead sea scrolls were found, and then we went to the Dead Sea itself, where we all floated in the water and rubbed mud on ourselves, then sat in a hot sulphur pool (like a jacuzzi)... it was a lot of fun. The water is warm and you can float w/out any effort, but then you feel all SLIMY!!! We all said it's a good thing we all know each other now - seeing that we all had our bathing suits on etc.
Two of the other women like to sing but we were having trouble coming up w/ hebrew songs we knew the words to - I'm so annoyed - I can't remember the words to anything so we've been singing hine ma tov etc. Also I did dona dona in english. One woman, Lisa, is 35 and single and has a really nice voice. I told her she should join Kolenu. But she works in NH and has no time to commute to brookline.
So when we got back from dead sea floating, she and I took a quick trip back to the main shopping district - although most shops closed early tonight. No restaurants were open tonight so we sat in the hotel lobby and ordered food and yakked. She is 35, divorced and lamenting her lack of normal available men (sound familiar??). One of the older women on the trip was giving us very candid advice about men -- she is a very youthful 75 and has kids our age.
It's boring going back to the room too early, but I have to pack up and my room looks like I've been there for 3 weeks. I'm going to stay on the web until Lisa gets back from taking a shower and packing. She is a real web addict and has a gazillion people to write to. So I'm going to go back and sit on the roof deck (no chairs but there are stone steps and a great view - and I'll sing to myself and listen to the Israeli music on my Zen.

email to Eden:
Hi! It's 10:20 PM saturday night. A bunch of us went out to eat again (what else is there to do? I had beer and banana ice cream(with caramel sauce) in the lobby bar for lunch... but there weren't a lot of places open. The place was not kosher - and the rabbi and wife were with us! I had gnocchi in pesto cream sauce and it was amazingly delicious. But then it was too late to shop as the stores were closed.
We went to shul this morning - the youth hostel where judy and I stayed is gone and replaced by a beautiful new building, w/ the conservative shul attached. There was a boy from the states being bar mitzvahed...it was a looong service but I endured it as it is Jerusalem. Lisa loves to sing also and has a nice voice. Her mother was a singer.
I am sleepy but have an hour to kill on the web now for my $6.00.
if I think of anything else, I'll write another email.
