Who Will Buy My Long Flowered Dresses??

I have been moving from place to place with a closetful of dresses, suits and skirts that I no longer wear. I do not wear them because (1) they do not fit, (2) they are very dressy, (3) they are no longer my style. However, they are still very nice and I thought if I could get them into a consignment store, I might make a little money. I wanted to donate them to a charity that gives/sells clothes to low income women who need new clothes for jobs etc. but even the local organization in Malden, Tailored for Success, said they didn't need anything right now.

My dresses are flowery; they are long; they are by Liz Claiborne and Maggie London. I have some skirts from Frugal Fannies that are very nice. Many of these items still have the tags on them.

So I was very excited when I made an appointment at Lisa's Closet in Newton. She had to cancel my first appointment, but after seeing her shop, filled iwth all kinds of retro clothing and jewelry, I wasn't sure if my clothes would fit. When I went back, she did indeed tell me that she would have to "pass" on my offerings. Despite the chic and designer items she had on the racks, no one wants dresses and skirts, she said.

And so, I came home with the same garment bags I'd been lugging around for two weeks. I'm not sure what to do with them now. Maybe it will be the Salvation Army after all.
