I Shop, Therefore I AM

Oh how long it's been since I wandered around a mall... or even just Macy's, or Kohls...Even though I never pulled down a huge salary, when I was working, I felt much more flush, and did not blink when I felt like making a purchase. If I wanted a new bra, no problem. Of course, I gave up spending full price on a bra ($40 or more) and found the same labels at Kohls for much less. I think the last items I purchases for myself were my 2 pairs of "trendy" style jeans from Macy's, on-sale and with a $60 credit. And after tailoring ($10 a pair) I was thrilled at how they fit.

But since my last layoff, I've been limiting myself and trying to wait until other expenses are taken care of and the new styles go on sale. The trouble is, every month there are new expenses - brakes for my car, my career coach, judiciously chosen shows or concerts, etc. But today I drove to the Peabody Mall with only one goal - get batteries for my watches, and one for Alan's watch. (Still had to spend $30 for 3 watch batteries). I walked through the new Nordstroms - Nothing I haven't seen before - shoes shoes and more shoes, and of course, a great makeup department. But before I spring for a new pair of Merrill clogs full price, I'll be checking out DSW and Off Broadway. I did see some nice Birkenstocks with purple patent leather straps for only $50 (I paid $70 for mine and I swore that those were the last sandals I'd ever buy!), but I sailed on through. And other than Macy's, I don't care for the clothes (or they don't care for me) in any of the boutique stores.
