The Urge to Splurge

I splurged today. Yes indeed. Now, my splurges may not be quite on a par with someone who splurges on a new pair of black suede $300 boots at Nordstrom's, but a splurge is a splurge. To me, it is something you don't need, and feel that the money shouldn't be spent on it, but it would be nice to have and it will make you feel good. I splurged on soap. It was "on sale" for $1.90 at Whole Foods (which, you may realize, is cheap for fancy soap at Whole Foods). I bought Lemon Verbena - mildly exfoliating - and Dead Sea Mud, which I hope is also exfoliating, because that is what I was looking for. I suppose I could also say that I "splurged" on my favorite rolls - Iggy's cranberry walnut, which I have a hard time finding, as they seem to run out frequently. These rolls are .69 cents each, so 4 rolls is almost $3.00. To me, that is also a splurge.

I guess I felt that I should be celebrating the $25 "raise" I got in my unemployment check. The raise was also retroactive, and I received an extra $100. Now, don't get me wrong - virtually every penny of those checks go to pay bills. Anything I spend over that amount comes right out of the "cushion" in my checking account, which is why I've been loathe to "splurge" lately.

But I do splurge. And I will continue to do so as long as I keep it under control. I do have money - savings, investments - so I feel that a small splurge (not those $300 suede boots) is ok. I need to have good food, good music, and beauty products in my life. Otherwise, there's just no point.
