Well yesterday was my big 5-0. We spent most of it visiting DBFs mom - she was moved back to the nursing home for hospice care as the hospital says there's nothing more we can do but keep her comfortable.
It appears that she probably had a stroke too as her mouth is somewhat twisted, and that may be why she can no longer seem to eat solid food, but we managed to feed her some melted ice cream. She can't talk but she was gesturing when she wanted more.
Also, when I walked in, she lit up - her eyes opened wide and she stared right at me and was trying to smile. We were just totally overwhelmed by this. We sat there and held her hand and talked to her. DBF and I have had some discussions about life, and what's the purpose when we're all going to end up like that.. he's been very depressed and exhausted, and I keep reassuring him, that I'm there with him, and telling him how it was for me with my dad.
OH and Alan gave me a gift card for an iPhone! I was totally flabbergasted by this nice gesture, considering what he's been doing... he came through for me after all... which is why I took him for dinner last night. We'll probably go for dinner at my sister's tonight as it's my neice's 11th bday today.
