Have You Met My Spleen?

So in the never ending saga called "Phyllis's Spleen... it's big.. it's small.. it's big...", I went to see a hematologist at Beth Israel yesterday, Dr. Zwicker. He doesn't seem overly concerned but I was sent to him by the first hematologist, Dr. Khatoon, who wants to make sure she didn't miss anything. He wants to do more tests to rule out absolutely everything. He says in the end, maybe it is just "me"... It could also be related to my liver because my liver enzyme tests are high and I have a "fatty liver". Also my body is producing too much of some antibody, which is related to the spleen/liver thing. It is confusing. I don't think it's life and death, but he may be holding out hope that he finds something to explain my abnormalities.

This all started when my first MRI showed that my spleen was enlarged. Further tests showed it wasn't, although I guess one showed that it might be, just a little (the high end of normal, I think they said).

So, Dr. Khatoon had me worried that maybe I had Lupus or Leukemia or Hepatitis. Since they've ruled those out, now they have me worried about whether I have HIV! He thinks that's a long shot but doesn't want to miss anything. So for now he said to stop taking my Zocor (which can affect liver functions), and come back in 4 weeks. He took more blood and said he'd do an HIV test since it was the only one that hadn't been done. (you have to sign a special form for that one). The only tests left would be a bone marrow test (to see if your body is making blood correctly or something). Dr. Bloor says that if he wants to do that I should let him, just to be sure.

This is very annoying. Are they grasping at straws or do I really have something???
