You know, I just have to vent. I went to an audition last night for a small group ensemble. Not permanent, just to do
a service in January. I knew pretty much every one there, and Rich, a zamir member and Louise,
a cantor I know from zamir are leading this project. She is also trying to recruit me for the jewish music certificate at HC.
Anyway, the other two altos are women who are not currently in zamir - one used to stand next to me and drove me crazy. Her voice is loud and powerful and often off key. Also, she was never prepared and missed many rehearsals. (her husband is a recent cantorial school grad).
The other woman sings in a less demanding jewish choir and has joined us on occasion.
There was also a soprano there from Zamir who has a lovely voice, and to my annoyance, they kept asking her to sing the alto.
We auditioned in small groups of 2, 3 or 4 parts. Of course she sounded great on the alto.
Later last night, I got an email that said that they are still "on the fence" about some people, including me, and are going to ask us
to audition again, when Louise comes back from vacation.
Always a bridesmaid! It's like that with the jobs. I am told that "it was such a hard decision, but we didn't pick you", and "we really really like you, but we need to interview some more" What is the matter with ME???
