Here is what Penelope Trunk, aka The Brazen Careerist - says about blogging:
"A blog is a great way to figure out what you want to do with yourself because writing regularly is a path to self-discovery. And a blog is a great way to build a network of people who respect you for your ideas, so it is the perfect tool for helping you to attain your goals and dreams, when you know what they are...You should all be blogging."
So, maybe I should start a new blog. I write the best stuff in my head but I am not patient enough to let it all out on paper.
I am sitting here, at noon on a Thursday, just having gotten back from the dentist. I have read my email, and caught up on Twitter and Facebook. I started searching for people who might be interesting to follow on Twitter. I found some sites listing some interesting people... mostly people discussing careers, job searching, or jobs. I already follow some Boston area job tweets, but they aren't very helpful all. Then I found out that Penelope Trunk was doing a live chat and answering questions... so I tuned in.
Why should I blog? What do I have to say? I have been using this as a diary, mostly, not for anyone's consumption except mine. I like to write, but unlike my friend Debbie, I don't seem to have much to say. Debbie's blog posts have been featured on Salon.com and other web sites, and she writes about things that anger her (an Oprah quiz), or provoke her - politics perhaps - or she writes about something meaningful that she's done, like what it was like to wait in line to pay her respects to Senator Kennedy. It's all there in the kind of detail I wish I had... but my memory must not be as good as hers or I'm not that observant, perhaps.
