Ah Nature!!

This morning I went to physical therapy thinking I had a 930 appointment - wrong! So I decided to go over to Fellsmere Pond and see the ducks and maybe have a walk. I had my sneakers on, my mp3 player, and coffee... and so I did.

What a wonderful place it is. Created by Frederick Olmstead in 1893 according to the signs, it is such a lovely place to walk, or to just sit and watch the ducks and people and squirrels. There is a mid-pond fountain, and pathways up and down and around. I sat for a bit, then walked one circle around the pond. You can go further around to the sidewalk to make the walk longer, but I opted for twice around the pond. There are lots of places to sit on 3 sides, and I had no trouble making the distance between the benches while walking on the street side where the Fellsway goes. there were parents with kids, who just love (or fear) the ducks, who splash and play and tip under the water to grab bits of food or whatever. When they do that, their feet wave up in the air and they look very funny. I'm not exactly what you'd call Nature Girl, but I still like walking around places like that. I'm not too good on hills and steps but i walked up a few inclines and up a set of tiered stone steps which take you up to a rotunda where you can look down over the pond . It is truly one of Malden's few gems.

And the really wonderful thing is -- I was not in pain!!!!! I am trying not to take that for granted.
