Kendall square is a nice place to work. My bldg is a litte far from all the activity but it's about an 5-7 minute walk (which is enough when it's hotand humid). If I walk over to the busy area, there's a Marriott, a food court, the MIT Co-op, Post Office, food places, book stores, etc.
They call this place GeneTown because of all the Biotech companies - BioGen, Genzyme. plus Akamai, EMC and I'm sure many others. I think BioGen has the run of the place though - they have about 6 buildings.
