miscellaneous pre-layoff ramblings

Miscellaneous pre-layoff ramblings ...

1) Mike Proulx and I had lunch when he got back from India, but we didn't talk about last day, Ellen Brady assumes it is status quo.

2) Josh and Mike were supposed to start having meetings w/ the managers to discuss escalations etc.

3) NO ONE here or in the field has any idea that Level 2 is going away, and when I tell them, they are quite upset.

4) I wish they would make an announcement and talk about transitions. I hope they aren't going to just announce on March 9 and flip the switch on March 13. Level One is still escalating everything to us for "triage" - they need to start escalating directly to notes or gc func or whatever. And there are a lot of gray areas - I run interference for everyone here - I talk to PS security, I talk to HR, the branch Admins are going to actually have to do this stuff after we are gone.

Where's my portal ID? Why does this Indian guy have 17 portal IDs??? hello???????
Do they think there will be no disruption in service???? They've already agreed that yes, there will be some "difficulties", but that if people complain, then they will say "well, this is what YOU wanted (meaning whoever's decision it was - I've heard this )... I've heard that the decision did NOT come from the top so I can't even blame RG.

I have talked to a lot of people here at Keane but no one knows what is going on w/ their respective departments. On Saturday, I was paged by Patty Carey in CT - she works for marketing now and is a "content manager" for all the sales "collateral" - the materials. They are working on revising all sales materials, and she suggested I speak to Michelle Wise, her manager in Marketing. She says she knows they are going to be hiring and this would be writing, editing, creating sales materials, presentations, especially making sure they are up to date and accurate etc. She gave me access to one of the Workplaces they use so I could see what she is working on. She told me to talk to Michelle, get the job description and apply.

If not now, then I can continue to follow up -- I have a trip planned for the end of April and have very busy weekends so I'm not too worried.
Other things that happened....

Well, let's see.. where to begin...
-- Steve interviewed me but is interviewing the IT guy from Milwaukee this Friday and won't be able to tell me anything until next week. I wish I could just be laid off already. I have been sick for 3 weeks and could really use the rest. When the guys in Medford need anything, they call John anyway.

-- The PS Admins are asking me to follow up on old tickets that they don't know the status on - because they apparently don't do anything when the tickets are escalated.

--- I don't know HOW Level 1 is going to handle the tickets that they cannot currently resolve... they still escalate wierd things to us, and we know who to ask and where to go, but if they are going to be calling and emailing people they are going to have a lot of problems. There are still a lot of concepts they just do not get.
-- I've been talking to people ("my customers":) who call me and they are just NOT happy to hear that they will have to call India for everything.
I think this Re-Org has frustrated a lot of people. The field tells me that upper management has no concept of the problems they have out there in the field.
I think "one keane" is a much bigger project than they anticipated technologically ... India has totally different systems and apparently there's a lot of friction there...
-- They are having a big systems outage Friday morning local time in India - Josh wants to talk to me about coverage etc...while they are offline for awhile - great. I said talk to your manager... oh? who is that? Mike?
--- Josh just asked me if a "consultant" and "subcontractor" at Keane were the same thing. OY OY OY...

Ok, so Friday 3/10 was supposed to be my last day, but since Andrea duda hasn't gotten the sign off on the recruiter job she offered me, I have to go back tomorrow and wait... it is so stupid.. I did want the job when she approached me, but now I'm not so sure anymore. I have sat with the three "girls" who work for her, Joanna, Stacy and Aliyah, and they like me and think I'd fit in. It seems like it will be a fun job, and something very different. This team only recruits for two clients, based in NYC, NJ and Halifax... so depending, I might ocassionally have to take a trip to NYC or maybe even Halifax - which is where we have a big big development center. Daily, I'll just be screening candidates for the recruiters. I will only be a jr. recruiter or a "sourcer" -- the word they like to use. I've already been reading about recruiting, and it sounds like an interesting field to get into... well we'll see what happens.

3/13/06 Monday morning -- To catch you up - I am waiting to find out if Andrea Duda can hire me to be a "sourcer" or junior recruiter. I have sat with the 3 women who work for her, and they all think I'd be a good fit... however, it turns out that she has to get the OK from a new manager she hasn't even met yet... so they had me stay past my 3/10 official lay-off day.
So, over the weekend, having time to think about this, I wrote Mike the following. "You know, I think the momentum is gone and I'm losing interest fast. If Andrea can't come through by the end of today, let's just put an end to this, shall we? I don't like all this game playing and it's starting to annoy me... If she really thought there was a good chance she might hire me, or anyone, she could have talked to her higher ups a week ago. " BUT - then he said that Ellen Brady is trying to get them all together to decide by tomorrow. I know that Andrea is in Toronto all week at some thing up there at our client, so who knows how crazy her schedule is.

He told me to hang in there and that they would know by Tuesday.
